11/4/2016 NBS BIM Library

We are very pleased to announce record uk's BIM Objects are live on the NBS National BIM Library. They can be found here: https://www.nationalbimlibrary.com/Search?page=1&searchTerm=record%20uk%20ltd&facet=nQJqnQ

BIM stands for Building Information Modelling which is a process involving the generation and management of 3D digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of items and places. These digital representations of our doors can be used by architects and specifiers to accurately place and scale the product within the digitised building environment.

Traditional building design was largely reliant upon two-dimensional technical drawings (plans, elevations, sections, etc.). Building information modelling extends well beyond this by using the three primary spatial dimensions (width, height and depth) to provide modelling in 3D, with time as the fourth dimension (4D) and cost as the fifth (5D). BIM therefore covers more than just geometry. It also covers spatial relationships, light analysis, geographic information, and quantities and properties of building components (for example, manufacturers' details).

BIM involves representing a design as combinations of "objects" that carry their geometry, relations and attributes so that if a related object is amended, dependent ones will automatically also change. BIM design tools also allow extraction of different views from a building model. Additionally, each model element can carry attributes for costing, selecting and ordering automatically, and order tracking.

10/28/2016 Wear it Pink

record uk staff made sure the Wear It Pink  day to raise money for Breast Cancer Research was a great success. A fun day was had by all and some hidden talents had us licking our lips. Who knew that Stephen Johnston and Richard McGuigan were such amazing bakers they could have been finalists in the Great British Bake Off? Or that Gary Hattie had a pink onesie in his wardrobe? A very worthwhile total of 228.45 was raised between Hamilton and Walsall with all donations going to Breast Cancer Research. Well done to all.

10/26/2016 Security Interlock system

The record R 62 security interlock   control system provides control of access and the separation of pedestrian traffic using sensors and triggers. The system allows entry and exit only when the required parameters are met. The system can be set to implement a range of security levels which allow passage only when pre-defined conditions are satisfied. For example, an alarm will sound if a second person enters the secured area or any item is left in the secured area. These measures prevent so-called tailgating and piggybacking behaviours. The interplay between the cutting edge technology of the record R62 security interlock and our proven engineering techniques enables safe, secure access control for vulnerable and specially protected areas such as can be found in banks, airports and other sensitive applications.

9/8/2016 Installation Times To Get Even Faster

record uk  is installing a powder coating facility within its 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Blantyre, south of Glasgow. The plant consists of a spraying booth and curing oven. The spraying booth is equipped with a conveyor system to facilitate the consistent high quality finish record uk requires to complement the high quality of its products for its customers.

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder which is then cured at a high temperature for a short period. It has many advantages over conventional liquid paint which keeps the paint in a solvent based suspension for application.

These benefits are:

  • there is no carrier fluid to evaporate away or emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • the process is safer
  • powder coating eliminates the possibility of runs and sagging in finishes
  • the resulting coating is harder and more durable
  • surfaces can be coated horizontally or vertically

Powder Coating Application Process

The powder coating is usually applied with an electrostatic gun which imparts a positive electric charge to the powder and uses compressed air to discharge the powder. The coated frame is then cured  under heat – usually at 200 °C (390 °F) for 10 minutes – in order to reach full hardness and durability. When the frame is heated, the powder melts and flows to form a uniform “skin”. This skin then cools to form a hard coating. This process creates a finish that is tougher than conventional paint.

Benefit for Customers

Being able to coat and finish the frames in-house means orders can be processed and installed even quicker than before – bringing a major benefit to customers where installation times are critically important.

8/25/2016 RIBA CPD for Architects

record uk  has developed RIBA approved CPD  for architects, specifiers and planners on the responsibilities and specifics of the  EN 16005:2012 regulations (which superseded BS7036 in 2013) which apply to automatic doors. Automatic doors are classified as machines under the European Machinery Directive which states that automatic doorsets, including their protective devices and safety systems, shall be regularly maintained according to the manufacturer’s specification and the recommended frequency for checking the correct operation of safety function and devices is, at least, once a year. The CPD training covers the responsibilities of owners and operators of such doors and what needs to be done to comply.

If you would like to receive the CPD training at your practice, this can be arranged by emailing: info@recorduk.co.uk. Please insert CPD Training in the subject heading.
