Powered Pedestrian (automatic) Door Installer and Service Engineer Apprenticeship


In conjunction with ADSA and South Staffordshire College, we have enrolled 11 apprentices who have been tremendously successful and demonstrated great value in getting to grips with the basics of automatic door service.

Summary of Scheme

1)  Length of Scheme - 24 months 

2)  Qualification - Level 2 Apprenticeship

3)  Two Yearly Intakes  - In March and September

Positions apprentices can achieve afterwards:

  • Automatic Door Technician/Engineer
  • Automatic Pedestrian Door Technician/Engineer
  • Automatic Door Service Technician/Engineer
  • Automatic Pedestrian Door Service Technician /Engineer


What does the apprenticeship offer?

The Apprenticeship will provide you with the relevant health and safety, electrical and mechanical training required to work within the Powered Pedestrian Automatic Door Industry, as an Installer or Service Engineer.

Completion of the scheme will enable apprentices to work on a range of automatic doors including:

  • sliding
  • swing
  • curved
  • folding
  • security
  • revolving

Customers will vary from offices, retail stores, schools, colleges, universities, healthcare facilities, the leisure industry,  transport hubs and financial institutions ...


Benefits of the apprenticeships

  • Time spent at college is completed in one week blocks, every five weeks, allowing you to focus on one area at a time
  • All accommodation and travel to and from the college will be paid for meaning you do not need to be local to attend
  • These apprenticeships are open to people of all ages

What key skills will you learn?

As part of the training programme, key activities will include: 

  • Installing and maintaining doors
  • Finding and fixing faults
  • Safe removal of doors
  • Gaining an understanding of the safe operation of automated doors
  • Working independently and as part of a team
  • Liaising with colleagues, other trades and end-users

The core skills and knowledge that apprentices will learn on this apprenticeship can be transferred to other industries such as steel doors, industrial doors, manual doors, security sectors and gates.
