Job Description

Overview of role/requirements

 Ensuring all IT systems (servers, computers, networking, mobiles, etc.) are operating and maintained to a high standard.

 Ensuring all reasonable measures are taken to reduce the risk of security issues and prevent reliability issues from disrupting the business.

 Utilising automation tools (e.g. scripting, MDT, desktop management tools) to reduce time taken to execute standard operating procedures such as on-boarding staff, preparing devices, account creation etc.

 Ensuring a positive, least disruptive end-user experience in all deployments, upgrades and maintenance tasks.

 Serving as a point of escalation for the IT Service Desk Analyst and covering the service desk when required (e.g. staff holidays, busy periods)

 Maintaining the IT asset database to a very high standard, ensuring all asset statuses and locations are accurately known and IT inventory is proactively managed.

 Ensuring all software and user licensing remains compliant and supporting the IT Manager during license audits.

 A strong aptitude for supporting, configuring and maintaining business systems (i.e. Finance, Stock, Purchasing, Sales, Service etc.) is required.

 Should feel at home working in a change managed environment, evaluating potential solutions, documenting use cases and submitting change proposals to the IT Manager.

 Should have a friendly, helpful, “can do” attitude and be able to handle a very busy and changing business environment with regular interruptions.

Application systems experience

You will be required to support and maintain all of our internal business systems. In addition to outstanding technical competency, you will also be expected to have strong working knowledge of business systems from a users’ perspective as you will often be expected to make configuration changes that affect how users interact with the systems. Technical and functional experience of the following is desired:

 Sage 200 (or similar mid-market ERP/MRP system)

 Microsoft Dynamics CRM (or equivalent sales/CRM system)

 ABS Service Director (or similar Field Service Management system e.g. Service Max, Astea Alliance)

 Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - advanced working knowledge of Excel (especially using formulas and pivot  tables) Scripting / Programming

 Strong working knowledge of PowerShell (especially with Exchange and Office 365) and Windows command line is essential.

 High proficiency with at least one other scripting language (e.g. Python) is desired.

 Experience of VBA and developing solutions using MS Excel.

 A good understanding of relational databases and experience with writing SQL queries.

Networking / Server

 Minimum 5 years implementing, supporting and maintaining a Microsoft Windows server environment and Microsoft applications/technologies such as Active Directory, IIS, SQL Server, and Exchange Server. MCSE or equivalent qualification a distinct advantage.

 Minimum 3 years implementing, supporting and maintaining a  virtualised environment (VMWare ESX and/or Microsoft Hyper-V).

 Experience implementing, supporting and maintaining Office 365 including migrating email from Exchange.

 Strong understanding of networking including routing, DNS, DHCP, CIDR, WAN, IPSec VPN, VLAN. One or more standard industry qualifications essential.

 Experience with network monitoring, traffic management, and optimisation tools.

Hardware / Other

 Experience of repair and maintenance of a range of IT hardware including printers, mobile phones (e.g. screen replacement), laptops, desktop PCs and servers.

 Experience of storage systems and technologies (SAN, Fibre Channel, NAS)

 Experience of implementing, supporting and maintaining telephone systems preferably both cloud and on-premise. Avaya IPO and Gamma Horizon experience a distinct advantage. A good understanding of SIP, call routing, hunt groups, configuring IP phones is desired.


 Current knowledge of security best practice and proven experience of implementing and maintaining security, configuring firewalls, email gateway management, password policy management etc.

 Adopting least privilege methodology for access rights.

Essential Critieria

Have the flexibility to do additional hours required for on-call support (on a rota basis) and for maintenance and upgrades to be carried out with minimal disruption to the business.

 Travel to our branch offices throughout the UK is required at least once every quarter so you should have a valid UK driving license and your own car.

 Structured and thorough approach to work prioritisation and  organisation

 The ability to work under pressure, get things done and meet tight deadlines

Hours: 40 hours per week

 Holidays: 33 days per year including public holidays

 Salary: Dependent on experience.

 Location: Blantyre
